	Sir Walter Scott moved to Cartleyhole Farm in 1812 and proceeded to redevelop the farm and area into what is now Abbotsford. This was the home where many of his literary works were written and where he developed an extensive library and armoury. Abbotsford is open to the public.

THE EDINBURGH SIR WALTER SCOTT CLUB This society is over 100 years old and is set up to foster and promote the name of Sir Walter Scott and his literature through meetings, seminars and lectures. By using the link you can find out more about the Society, membership and its programme.

SCOTT'S SELKIRK
Each December over the last few years the community has celebrated its historical connections in the form of a weekend celebration.

	The event last year was on the 6th & 7th December and large numbers appeared in period costumes. There were horse drawn carriages offering trips along the centre of the town.
Christmas carol music was being played in the Market Square by various groups all in period costumes. Most of the shops were displaying items that would have been common at the time of Sir Walter Scott.

SAVE SCOTT'S COUNTRYSIDE Under presssure from the Scottish Executive and the Scottish Borders Council there is a plan being presented for the establishment of a new community to be built on areas of land through which the Sir Walter Scott Way passes. This is sensitive land and subject to several special designations, lying between Abbotsford and Melrose.
